In the spring of 2000, the John Donald Robb Graduate Music Assistantship program at the University of New Mexico was established to support the preservation and improvement of the John Donald Robb Archive of Southwestern Music and the Robb manuscript collection at the University Libraries’ Center for Southwest Research as well as to assist with the annual John Donald Robb Composers’ Symposium and biennial Composers’ Commission Competition.  The program is open to qualified students wishing to study for a Master’s Degree in Music or Music Education.
The Trust is pleased to announce that Levi Raleigh Brown will be the 2018/19 Graduate Assistant.

Levi Brown grew up in Kalispell, Montana, and attended The University of Montana where he studied with Dr. Emilie LeBel. Here he received a Bachelor of Music in composition and both wrote for and performed with many ensembles. He found a particular interest in playing the traditional gamelan music of Bali, Indonesia, and in 2016 he traveled to Bali to study with expert Made Lasmawan. There he learned to play many traditional pieces and also found inspiration for his own music.
Levi is currently working toward his Master’s Degree in composition at The University of New Mexico, where he studies with Dr. Karola Obermueller. His music is often absurd but thoughtful and aims to draw attention to common human experience and natural processes while experimenting with elements of musical chance, form, and texture.
You can explore some of Levi's work on Soundcloud.
