SEPTEMBER 4, 2014
The festivities, a celebration of the Robb Trust's 25th anniversary, will begin at 2 p.m. Sept. 14 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center with a variety of activities that will explore the contributions of John Donald Robb. His fascination with the traditional music and dance of the upper Rio Grande led to nearly 3,000 field recordings of music that he collected during far-flung excursions in the mid-20th century. In addition to Robb’s recordings, now housed at the UNM Center for Southwest Research, pre-concert activities will include a demonstration of how to access the Robb Musical Archives from your home computer. Also during the pre-concert activities, [NEW LINK TO COME] Hispanic Folk Music of New Mexico and the Southwest: A Self-Portrait of a People, will be for sale. This exhaustive study based on Robb's extensive research was originally published in 1980. Now, 34 years later, UNM Press has re-published what is still considered one of the most complete syntheses of Hispanic folk music in print. The 3 p.m. John Donald Robb, Jr. Concert will follow the pre-concert activities. This exciting concert will be curated by Enrique Lamadrid and performers will include:
All events are free, but tickets will be required and can be picked up at the NHCC box office beginning at 2 p.m. on Sept. 14. Come early and enjoy the pre-concert festivities! Comments are closed.
