22-Mar-2012 thru 31-Mar-2012
This year’s artist in residence was the Del Sol String Quartet, an award-winning ensemble from San Francisco. In this role, quartet members performed in several concerts and presented master classes to UNM students. They were joined by an impressive roster of distinguished composers and performers. In addition to a concert every evening, an exciting schedule of daytime events included sessions on the history of composed music in New Mexico, the legacy of John Donald Robb, and two sessions featured previous and future directors of the symposium discussing the past, present and future of the John Donald Robb Composers' Symposium. This year's symposium also featured the Creative Soundspace Festival, a four-day collaboration with the Outpost Performance Space. LocalStyle presented Bird, an installation that ran throughout the symposium at the UNM Art Museum Media Gallery. Performances took place in venues across Albuquerque and in Santa Fe. All events were open to the public. Events on the UNM campus were free, with admission charged at the other venues, which included the Outpost Performance Space, the Kosmos, North Fourth Art Center and in Santa Fe at the Scottish Rite Center.
