Current Graduate Assistant

Josh Aguiar is a composer currently based in Albuquerque where he continues his musical studies in the Theory/Composition program at The University of New Mexico. As a composer, Aguiar pursues a variety of musical interests ranging from Bluegrass to Rock, and Jazz which he not only works on compositionally, but also performs on Piano, Banjo, and Bass. Other pursuits include work in electronic music and live processing, particularly music in which the performer communicates with electronic components in real time, in order to augment the performance in interesting and sometimes unexpected ways. Several other interests continue to crop up include composition for video games and other digital media, fixed media composition, and work in instrument creation, both digital and analog. In recent months Aguiar has been pursuing work in composition which bridges the gap in live processing and digital worlds with analog/modular synthesizers which in theory will provide some interesting takes not often found in each world on its own.
